Green Vine snakes range from South East Asia, to Indo-China. They live in tropical and monsoon rainforests and like a high level of humidity. The Green Vine Snakes is arboreal and blends in perfectly with branches and leaves but have no real problem with moving on the ground as well. They are thin, very agile and can grow up to 6 ft long. Green Vine Snakes are usually all green with a whitish stripe running down both sides of the green belly. They appear very smooth and almost have a velvet look to them. They are a rear-fanged snake and possess very mild venom that they deliver with enlarged grooved teeth in the back of their jaws by chewing repeatedly. Its eyes are specially adapted for hunting. Each eye has a black, horizontal pupil, which lines up with a groove going down the snake's nose to give it an excellent frontal version & depth perception. Green Vine Snakes are mainly diurnal and like to poke around during the day and sleep at night. They are live bearing and have small litters of young, which are brown in color. They aren't an overly aggressive snake and will usually inflate their throats to reveal a beautiful checkered pattern before considering a strike. They are a very responsive and intelligent species of snake.Caging:
These animals are arboreal, and need climbing branches and perches so they can feel secure and not vulnerable, the addition of fake vines, leaves and other foliage in the "trees" will help your vine feel safer. A large water bowl should be provided.Heat and Humidity:
The temperature should around 92 degrees Fahrenheit on the basking side. The other side should be significantly cooler 79-82 degrees Fahrenheit. The cage should be misted 2-3 times daily to maintain a humidity level of approximately 80%-100%Feeding:
This is an easy task to complete if you have a readily available supply of feeder lizards. This species has a highly specialized diet and may refuse food that was scented or food that is not a live lizard, this is not to say that you will never get them onto rodents or frozen thawed lizards, but it will be a long and very difficult task. Their diet includes geckos, anoles, frogs, and small birds.Warning:
These snakes are venomous and should be treated as any other ďhotĒ snake would be treated. This species is slender, agile, and fast, so do not let them get off the hook and donít take your eyes off them for a moment; they can and will bite. Although their venom isnít harmful to humans it is possible to be allergic to their venom. There is no antivenin for the green vine snake but if you do get bit you should seek medical attention.
